Counselling can be challenging, especially taking the first step, but it can also be a wonderfully empowering experience that can help you address your issues and achieve positive outcomes. Placing your emotional health in the safe and confidential space of a fully qualified, competent, sincere, caring and creative professional.

It is important that you work with a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable and with whom you can establish a good rapport.

The Eclectic Approach

We are all different, and have different issues and experiences, and as such we require different approaches to counselling.

The Eclectic approach, where Eclectic Counselling derives its name, incorporates an integrative mix of therapeutic approaches that are tailored to meet each individual and their issues most effectively.

It is a flexible, versatile counselling approach that allows the therapist to draw on the most effective counselling methods available to address each client's individual needs. This is often also referred to as Integrative counselling.

The approaches drawn on incorporate Person Centred, Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive / Behavioural, Narrative, Existential and Pluralistic.

Why Seek Counselling

Often sharing a problem can take the sting out of it. It can sometimes be difficult to discuss issues with family or friends where you need to weigh up issues that may touch them through mutual relationships. Your issues may be deeply personal and knowing that you want confidentiality without any judgement is sometimes easier with somebody outside your usual circle.

Qualified counsellors / psychotherapists are trained to actively listen and integratively (eclectically) tailor therapeutic approaches to you and your particular needs.

Thankfully people are now taking their mental health as seriously as their physical health, there is no longer a stigma attached to attending counselling and it has become a healthy, acceptable option.

About Me

Helen Pollard

I feel very privileged to work within a profession that I really enjoy, get great job satisfaction, and where I feel I can make a difference to people and their lives. It is very rewarding to watch people who come to me and go through the counselling process, and leave having addressed and worked through their issues satisfactorily.

I feel that everybody that comes to me is unique, as are their issues, and as such require a tailored approach that most suits their needs.

I work with adults, and adolescents (aged 16+) and have experience working with a wide range of issues.

Issues that often come up in counselling are stress, relationship issues, family difficulties, general and social anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bullying, abuse / assault, self-esteem issues, loneliness, bereavement and loss, racism, workplace issues, redundancy, retirement and life stage difficulties such as age, parenthood, new lifestyle adjustment.

Often people attend counselling where they feel the need to talk to someone in confidence, or they have personal development goals and wish to have somebody to help them go through the process.

My relevant qualifications include:
BA (Hons) Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling & Psychotherapy

In accordance with the accrediting body IACP, I engage in continual professional development.

With a background in business with relevant qualifications to MBs level in Business, and many years’ experience, I also feel well placed to work with people facing the issues pertinent to the workplace.

Qualified since 2017 and accredited since 2019, I also offer Psychotherapy Student Counselling.

As an accredited Counsellor I have completed a satisfactory garda vetting process with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and adhere to their ethical and professional code of practice.
